The trick to that question is imaging yourself at 8. When I was 8 I
may have
been receptive to "Naked Lunch" the movie, but perhaps I am not ready
at 41. The innocence of children is an important issue, since once
lost it
will not return. I suppose librarians and parents have some
here to not disregard this. Children are not little adults, although
they may be
wise. John Waters was going for the glib shock value with this
off-hand remark. I think he would squirm a bit to consider its full
implications. I do know
I made a point to read every book forbidden me as a child. I wonder
if censors
understand this?
