Pat:

Rhombus Media has produced several films based on the lives of composers;
here are several I would recommend to the professor:

SCHUMANN'S LOST ROMANCE (1997) 51 min.--A musical detective story in which
cellist Steven Isserlis investigates the intrigues of the final years of
Robert Schumann and his wife, Clara.

RAVEL (1989) 103 min.--Homage to the great French composer Maurice Ravel,
with rare home movie footage, photographs, and unpublished letters which
give the film deep insight into Ravel's elusive life.

SATIE AND SUZANNE (1995) 53 min.--French composer Erik Satie (Nicholas
Pennell) encounters his former beloved Suzanne Valadon (Veronica Tennant)
when she seeks refuge from the flooding river Seine in an after-hours cafe
in Monmartre.

MY WAR YEARS: ARNOLD SCHOENBERG (1993) 83 min.--Interweaves dramatic and
documentary technique to illuminate the explosive years from 1906 to 1923
when Schoenberg single-handedly transformed the language of music itself.

SHADOWS AND LIGHT: JOAQUIN RODRIGO AT 90 (1994) 70 min.--An intimate
portrait of Spain's best known living composer of classical music.
