1997 National Media Market

The National Media Market was held in Chicago from October 23-26, 1997. I
saw more outstanding new documentaries there than I have seen in many
years! The offerings were outstanding. It will be even harder for
attendees to select their favorites, but that's what I want you to do.
Please send me your "Best of the Market" list -- up to five titles that
you thought were especially noteworthy. The list will be published in an
upcoming issue of the _VRT News_.

At the Market I did a presentation, "New and Emerging Video Formats:
Implications for Librarians and Distributors." The text of my
presentation, along with a list of noteworthy web sites and a
bibliography, are now available on the web. URL:

since I came back from the Market and will continue to do so. Not only do
we have DVD and Divx to contend with, Divx now has a competitor, HST.
It's all on the web... I include preliminary results from the brief
survey on optical formats that I conducted via Videolib last month; I will
be adding complete results, including all of the comments that I received.
