.....About this discussion around purchase orders/credit cards etc. Why
should a librarian have to use a personal credit card and wait to be
reimbursed by the institution? Surely some lobbying for business credit
cards is in order? When this problem began to surface for our collections
coordinators, we also went the route of buying on our own cards and
waiting to be paid by the District (often after the bill was due I
might add) So we lobbied for library credit cards, and the District came
through. We each have a VISA purchase card in our own name/library name
and it has all kinds of "stops" built into it as a safeguard (no hotels,
restaurants etc !!) I am told the District is delighted with the way it is
working out and would now like us to use credit cards as a preferred
method for buying all library materials if we can. (No way....)

District employees in all departments/services also use these purchase
cards, and in all it is considered a very successful programme) It's worth
trying, right?
