LIBRARIES: FOCUS ON NEW TECHNOLOGIES
Sarah (Sally) K Wiant -- Director of the Law Library and
Professor of Law at Washington and Lee University
Co-author of LIBRARIES AND COPYRIGHT: A GUIDE TO
COPYRIGHT IN THE 1990'S
As the need and desire to make the best use of nonprint
media within and between every type of library grows, we
are often faced with concerns. What can we do, both
practically and legally?
Kristine Brancolini will provide background on the interlibrary
loan of video and offer practical advice for those wanting to
lend video or to extend their present lending activities. Kris
will share knowledge and experience gained from working with
the ALA Video Roundtable, which has examined video lending
activities nationwide. What are the issues and concerns and
how can ILL work for our users?
Sally Wiant will extend resource-sharing concerns into the
arena of electronic materials and the impact of legal
developments. What are the proposed guidelines for "fair use"
of electronic materials developed by CONFU (Conference on Fair
Use) which include distance learning, images and multimedia?
Why has CONFU been unable to develop ILL guidelines, and why
are their guidelines for electronic "reserves" not being
submitted for endorsement by publishers and users?
