I just found a nice article, "Letterbox vs. Pan 'N Scan," on the MGM
Web site. I often find myself trying to explain these concepts to our
users. This article will help.

"Letterbox vs. Pan 'N Scan." MGM Web site. URL:

By the way, I'm in the process of revising my syllabus for the media
course I will be teaching in the School of Library and Information
Science this summer. It will be ready soon and available on the Web.
I'll send the URL to videolib, in case anyone would like to take a look.
The course used to be called "Audiovisual Services in Libraries," but
someone saw fit to change to title to "Audio and Video Information
Programming." Don't be confused by the title. It's really "Audio and
Video Collections and Services in Libraries," with added emphasis on
multimedia CD-ROM and new technologies like DVD and the Web.
