White Squall is based on a true story about an incident aboard something
called the Ocean Academy that took place in 1960. The main (first) part
of the film takes place on aboard the ship and is about the
relationship(s) between the students and the captain. Then ship
ecnounters a big storm and some of the crew are killed.

The later part of the movie is sort like a "Caine Mutiney" type
trial with the captain trying to prove he wasn't responsible for the
deaths of the students. This is probably the lawyer aspect you were
interested in. Hope this helps.
