Media Services is an instructional support for the classroom, we are in the
library, use Dynix for checking out CD's, audiocassettes to students and
walkman/CD players for library use only. But the video collection can only
be checked out by faculty or staff, students view in our 11 viewing carrels.
Our purchased video collection is bought by the departments but housed here
and students can view only with instructor approval. Our collection is at
3200 purchased titles and about 1000 on-campus productins of
lectures/seminars. We catalog and file by accession number. We use our own
subject listing as to how we teach on campus, i.e. Behiavioral Sciences -
Anthropology, Psychology, etc. and cross reference as to other uses. Our
instructors are welcome to browse the closed stacks, we do not have tattle
strips and we loose about 2-3 titles per year that just disappear, usually a
feature film rather than a documentary. Since so many of our titles cost
over $100 and we have only 1 copy of most titles I couldn't imagine having
open stacks.
