Looking for amateur films/home movies on 8mm and 16mm

This will probably seem an odd request, but I thought perhaps
some of of the knowledgeable people reading Videolib could help me.

I am trying to find 8mm (both regular and Super-8) and 16mm
home movies. I don't mean 8mm and 16mm prints of
commercially-produced films; I am looking for amateur-made home
movies. With more and more people switching to video, I think
such films are being transferred to tape and then discarded. These
are documents of our century that will be lost unless they're
collected. (I am making this inquiry on behalf of an archivist who
will give me material I need for my research, in exchange for
home movies I can find for him.)

Does anyone have ideas about how I might obtain any of these
films? Do any of you have such films in closets or storage rooms,
films that you would be willing to let go?

Any suggestions would be welcome.
