Librarians and educators who want to choose authentic representations of
Native Americans will find helpful guidelines from Vision Maker
Video, a division of Native American Public Telecommunications Inc.

Working with a team of Native American scholars, VMV has published a fact
sheet, REEL NATIVE OR STEREOTYPED INDIAN: A GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING THE
NATIVE AMERICAN IMAGE IN FILM AND VIDEO. The guide helps educators
understand and make informed decisions about using videos in the
classroom and in public programs. Included are 12 guidelines
focusing on specific aspects of programs such as the tone of narration,
complexity of the individuals portrayed, and the uniqueness of various
Indian cultures.

For a free copy of the guide, contact Vision Maker Video at 1-800-835-7087.
