A few days ago, someone on the list asked about a video of
"A Midwifs Tale." I didn't think there was one, but since that
is one of my favorite books, I went straight to the source to ask.
And here is what Laurel Ulrich replied:

A documentary based on A Midwife's Tale is in the works. Partially funded by
NEH and the PBS series "The American Experience," it will also have
limited theatrical release, perhaps as early as next year. Kaiulani
Sewall Lee, a marvelous actress who has played many character parts in
theatre and film and who presently tours with her one-woman show on
Rachel Carson, plays Martha Ballard. The film is innovative in its use
of dramatization to illuminate historical research. It goes back and
forth between doc and drama and raises questions of historical
interpretation as well as telling a story. I have been closely involved
with the film so can't claim innocence if it doesn't work!

I just had another thought: Could the person asking for "A Midwife's Tale" in
fact be seeking "The Handmaid's Tale," a feature film based on the Margaret
Atwood book? I have seen these two titles get confused before.
