Our library does not typically purchase anything new, but on rare occasions
we do. The Depardieu directed version of "Le Tartuffe" from 1984 (in VHS
format) is available used from various sellers through Amazon.com. If you
are desperate enough, this may do. Here's a link:

Good luck!! -Brian

Thanks Steven and Jessica. I passed your helpful information to the
professor. My dad got out of the hospital this past weekend, so things are
looking up! I really appreciated your help, especially under my current
circumstances.

If ROLLER DERBY GIRL was Republic than Paramount would own it. Swank would
license it but ONLY if it in fact had legal home video release on DVD which
seems unlikely. No studio nor Swank operating on their behalf will license a
film they have not released. TCM may have shown the film but a copy from
them is not going to help and if the prof made one I would not mention it.

Hello, Video Librarians.
I have received a request from a professor who wants to show Derby (1971)
and Roller Derby Girl (1949) in Lumina Theater in the spring semester. Any
thoughts on who has the Public Performance Rights for either of these? I'm
about to leave town for the next week to take care of my father, who has
just gotten out of the hospital and is having a difficult recovery. As I
will not have time for a complete search for some time, I am hoping someone
already knows about either of these films. For some reason, I have a vague
memory of one of you offering a helpful site for finding PPR on really old
films, recently, but it could have just been a pleasant dream. Here are the
leads I have from just a couple of minutes (all I had) on IMDB and the
internet:
Derby<http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0169756/>
(1971<http://www.imdb.com/Sections/Years/1971/>)
Cinerama Releasing Corporation (1971) (USA) (theatrical)
Red Alert Films (2008) (USA) (DVD)
Code Red DVD (2009) (worldwide) (DVD)
Roller Derby Girl (1949<http://www.imdb.com/Sections/Years/1949/>)
Republic Pictures
Paramount Pictures

Subject: Public History Program - Roller Derby Film Night

Ms. Jackson-

I am hoping that you can assist me in fleshing out what would be necessary
to put together a film event at the Lumina Station sponsored by the Public
History Program. We have been thinking that the current resurgence of
interest in Roller Derby might provide and attractive and productive
opportunity to discuss feminism and athletics.

The two historic films that we would think we might be able to show are
Roller Derby Girl from 1949, a 10 minute documentary that was nominated for
an Oscar, and Derby, a feature length documentary from 1971.

What is the process for setting up such an event? How would I find out if
these films are available?

Any assistance you could provide concerning how to put this together would
be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes-

between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and

Dear CW,

Does anybody know if the Depardieu's version of Tartuffe is available in
either VHS or DVD? Our VHS copy is failing and we would like to replace it.
I have not been able to find a copy of it on the usual OP sites.
