I got a BA in TV production from Hofstra and was the News Archivist at Sinclair Broadcast Group's Newscentral until the operation shut down in 2006. We had a growing library of tapes ()b-roll, SOTs, pkgs, press conferences etc) that I managed and provided for our affiliates when requested. I'm in production archives now. I would absolutely love to talk about TV news librarianship with you and anyone else who's interested! It has been nearly impossible for me to connect with any other librarians in TV news. I don't think many exist. I'm aware of several stations that have cut any library related positions, so I'm afraid it's a small and perhaps disappearing profession.

If anyone else has more to offer, I'd enjoy hearing from you too.

Subject: [Videolib] Question for the LISTSERV

Hello everyone! I would like to know if there are any news librarians out there (librarians working for a TV or news channel). If there are, I would like to know a little bit about what you do since I am thinking about going into that area of librarianship (I am currently a Young Adult Librarian). Thanks so much!

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
