Dragnet was broadcast by NBC, which tended to submit copyright deposits to LC more than the other networks. The LC blue Copyright Books for "Motion Pictures" might list the series; you could check there. Some Dragnet episodes are sold by NBC Universal, so I wouldn't be completely confident that this episode of Dragnet is in the PD. The Internet Archive doesn't verify copyright claims by the people who post items to their site, similar to YouTube's practice (supposedly!).

  It looks legit to me. Copyright is actually 95 years thanks to Sonny Bono but a lot of early television was NEVER copyrighted. I can't say with 100% of certainty that is the case here but to the best of my knowledge every feature
  film I see listed here is PD. Also I tend to give weight to a site with the Prelinger Archives.

    I know we’ve also talked about public domain being tricky, because the video and music may be copyrighted differently.
