Re: [Videolib] Rental Pricing

Myles & List,

Given our current financial state (limited and dwindling funding), we would
be unlikely to purchase at the "rental" price point. Our board, in looking
for ways to save money, has been considering not purchasing new releases,
anyway...something about their not wanting us to "compete" with Blockbuster
or some such nonsense. This would just give them an excuse to do it.

Furthermore, our Technical Services department continues to experience
back-ups in processing that often prevent us from seeing new releases on
street date. Overall, not a wise move from Paramount, considering the
ongoing poor economy with few prospects for improvement for most public
library systems.

Dear collective wisdom,
Does anyone know if this early short by Abbas Kiarostami (1970), is
available on any compilation?
It is on youtube, but the quality is poor.
Thanks for any leads--

Hey all,
I just noticed on a recent advertisement that Paramount is going to be
testing a higher priced rental copy ($28.99) of the film The Goods with a
release date of 11/10/2009. It will be followed by a sell through price or
$19.99 on 12/15/2009.

I wonder if we will be reverting back to the days of rental priced films in
the $90+ for new releases? To you public libraries out there what is the
breakpoint for you to wait for a sell through copy? Is $28.99 to much to
pay for a film to have it a month earlier vs $19.99? I have say I'm not
very pleased with this move, and I will most likely wait for a sell through
price should it come to that, unless it's a big title, then I may have to
rethink it.

Any thoughts?

Best,
Myles Jaeschke

I've looked at www.iranianmovies.com<http://www.iranianmovies.com> in the
past and sense that they may not sell high-quality, authorized editions of
works. I've based this guess on the fact that they offer a number of Disney
films dubbed into Farsi.

"The Bread and Alley" ( "Le Pain et la rue" ) is also available on a region
2, PAL copy of "The Traveller" ("Le Passager") published by Les Films du
Paradoxe, but I believe the only subtitles are French:

http://www.filmsduparadoxe.com/lepassagercat.html

Since no character in this short speaks, the subtitle problem may not be a
huge concern.

Hope this helps,
Brian.
