Columbia put YOL on VHS in the '80s, maybe they have a 35mm print in their vaults? Looks like it screened at Lincoln Center in 1982, read review here.
Unfortunately, it's been out of print in the US for years. It's a wonderful film and I hope you're able to show it. Good luck!

Subject: [Videolib] Trying to find Yol by Yilmaz Güney

The upcoming New York Kurdish Film Festival (October 21-25) is trying - with no luck - to locate a 35mm print or similar UNCENSORED print of Yol by Yilmaz Güney.  Censored versions exist in Turkey but we need an uncensored print.  Any help or ideas greatly appreciated.  As the film won the Palme D'Or at Cannes in 1982, it seems hard to believe that all uncensored prints have been destroyed but maybe this is the sad reality?

Many thanks,
Sally Eberhardt

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
