Hello, everyone.

My university is searching for two films to compliment the book A Long Way =
Gone: Memoirs of a Child Soldier by Ishmael Beah, which everyone on campus=
will be encouraged to read for the fall.

A Long Way Gone is Beah's first-hand account of being pressed into service=
as a child soldier in the war-torn country of Sierra Leone. His story of a=
childhood lost and an adulthood found is an inspiring journey from heartbr=
eaking tragedy to hope and redemption.

Possible movies mentioned:
Cry Freetown
Africa: War is Business
Sierra Leone's Refugees All-Stars
Ezra (the description of this one sounds amazing to me)
God Grew Tired of Us
Bling: A Planet Rock (Ishmael Beah is in this film)
Johnny Mad Dog

War Dance was also mentioned, but we've played it twice already, so I will =
be encouraging the use of other titles.

If you have seen any of these films and can comment on the suitability of t=
hem or if you have other films you would recommend instead, I would be happ=
y to receive messages from you.

Thanks,
Sandra

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
