Thank you Mark for your information. I have not received any other
inputs from other librarians. Does anyone have experience with AllCirc
Vault machines or any other DVD/CD dispensing machines?

Farhad,

=20

We've been using Mediabank machines for several years with mostly good
results.

=20

They don't manage boxed sets as a single unit. Each part gets its own
bib record and each disc its own barcode.

=20

I'm not aware of any other customers using Voyager, but it uses a SIP
self-check interface, so I wouldn't expect that to be a problem.

=20

Here are a few pros and cons off the top of my head:

=20

Pros

Media security

self-checkin/out labour savings

non-queued, self-expiring holds

SIP interface for ILS circ interaction

Effective web reservation system (separate from ILS catalog though)

=20

Cons

Capital cost ($25K-$50K)

Poor ILS catalog integration--records needed to be exported

Staff need to perform physical/logical troubleshooting sometimes

Patron queues when busy

Dear collective mind,

=20

I'm doing some research on the possibility of getting automatic DVD/CD
dispensing machines for our library. I need input from pros and cons,
especially those who are actually using them. How does it work with
multiple DVD/CD box sets with a single barcode? Do they connect to
circulation modules such as Endeavor Voyager? I appreciate your
comments.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
