Below is an e-mail I received. It is part of a correspondence between out Acquisitions Department and a faculty member requesting the purchase of a video for our University Libraries collection.

I am processing your order for "Brother's Keeper." The price of the DVD is $29.95 without the site license, and $89.95 with the license. Do you still want us to order it?

These licenses are sometimes very expensive. Yesterday I checked another DVD that has a retail version for $20, and an institutional version for $400.

What's up with this? Is this right??

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
