NEW Title suggestions from VEA Inc (Video Education America)

"The History of Evolutionary Theory"
DVD, 2007, 27 mins
How did life come to be in all the myriad of forms that exist on earth
today? In this program we present an overview, from a science viewpoint,
of the development of answers to this fundamental question. From Lamarck
and The Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics, Darwin?s Origin of the
Species, development s by key biologists to recent directions, the
program charts the development of evolutionary theory. The main ideas
behind Intelligent Design are also examined.

"Genes and Cloning"
DVD, 2006, 28 mins
There is a lot of controversy around genetic modification of organisms
and cloning. This program looks at the way man has modified genomes of
plants and animals used for food since the dawn of agriculture. As
knowledge of cells and genetics has increased so has man's ability to
alter genomes. Animations show how genetic engineers are now able to
construct and insert genes for desirable characteristics into plants and
how technology is used to increase numbers of animals with desirable
traits and screen out those with disease or lower food yields.

"Genes and Inheritance - Priests, Peas, Punnets and Pedigrees"
DVD, 2002, 32 mins
This program starts with Mendel, and introduces a number of important
concepts, principles and definitions that form the basis of the modern
understanding of genetics and inheritance. It covers the use of Punnet
Squares looks at gene linkage, sex linkage, and crossing over. It also
introduces Pedigree Analyses using examples of autosomal and sex-linked
inheritance.

"Understanding Stem Cells"
DVD, 2006, 26 mins
An introduction to stem cells while assuming no prior knowledge, and
covers the following topics: what stem cells are, the difference between
embryonic and adult stem cells, IVF as a key source of embryonic stem
cells, therapeutic cloning (somatic cell nuclear transfer), the
difference between therapeutic and reproductive cloning, potential
medical applications of stem cell research and a brief overview of

Subject: [Videonews] DNA/Genetics/Mutation/Evolution

Colleagues:
I have a teacher who is using an excellent Films for the Humanities
video
called "DNA & the Evidence for Evolution". Its from the Evolution:Origin
of
Change series. However, the teacher would like something newer than
this
1980's production. Her parameters are the structure and replicating
processes
of DNA, genetic mutation, and evolution.
Are any of you familiar with any more recent titles/vendors that
might fill
the bill. Please post your responses to the list.
