Dear Videonews Subscribers,

Yesterday, Wal-Mart announced a new health insurance plan for its
employees, which satisfied a few, but not many, of the corporation's
critics. The way this company treats its employees is not the only
cause for concern. Wal-Mart's business practices have a profound effect
on local economies, and may suppress wages for people who work at
completely different companies, in completely different sectors. Our New
Release WAL-TOWN THE FILM addresses some of these issues through the
story college students taking cross-continent activist trip. =20

WAL-TOWN THE FILM
Directed by Sergeo Kirby

Six activists. Thirty-six towns. One giant corporation. An experiment in
activism. Filmed over two summers this film introduces six university
students who visit 36 Wal-Mart stores across Canada. They have one goal:
to raise public awareness about Wal-Mart's business practices and their
effects on local economies. Frank exchanges between activists and
shoppers are woven into interviews with a range of characters from
either side of the issue. As it takes us to the frontlines of the debate
over the company's dominance in the retail market, Wal-Town creates an
intimate portrait of young activists as they experience the highs and
lows of their first major campaign. (2006, 66 min)
