To make life easier for rank-and-tenure committees who occasionally nee=
d to
locate librarians willing to provide peer reviews, I've created
http://academic-librarian-status.wikispaces.com/

There's hardly anything there yet but I'd like to encourage representat=
ion
from as many college and university libraries as possible as the contra=
ct
renewal and tenure-requesting season starts to get under way.

You can contribute directly to the Wiki or, if you wish, send informati=
on
about your institution to me and I will add it.

Some of the basic questions to which it would be useful to know the ans=
wers
include: Are your librarians tenure-track or not? Do you have more than=
one
option? Faculty status or not? If tenure-track, how often are pre-tenur=
e
librarians up for review prior to the request-for-tenure year? Are exte=
rnal
peer reviews solicited at any point in the pre-tenure process? Are your=

librarians unionized?

If your institution doesn't accord faculty status to librarians, please=

share that information. I think this kind of wiki will also be of inter=
est
to job seekers who want to know about professional status at various
institutions before applying for certain jobs.

Please DO NOT REPLY TO VIDEOLIB with your information.

It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
