I was flipping through the latest general catalog from Films Media the other day and I did not see all the usual disclaimers and notices about how they have produced DVD-Rs. All their titles were merely listed as DVDs. Does anyone know if they have continued the same crappy (although cheaper I am sure) conversion straight from vhs to dvd without creating a menu or chapters? After spending well over $100 for a title I bought personally to use in a classroom, I was really put out to discover I could not fast forward to a particular scene in a play. There was no menu, nothing. I don't expect a lot of "extras" but the convenience of menu and chaptering really are features that make the DVD format so desirable, especially for teaching purposes.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
