The list has recently seen a post concerning the Hofstra position for
director of it's film and media library. Although this list is largely
unmoderated, I am the technical list owner and feel that it's my
responsibility to weigh in when I feel that the spirit and purpose of the
list have been transgressed (something I've only had to do a couple of
times in the past ten years). I believe the recent post concerning the
Hofstra position warrants such weighing in. As we all know, there are very
very very (very very) few media librarian positions out there, and when one
DOES open up, it's a cause for celebration. I definitely want to encourage
posting such positions on this list; however, specific queries about such
positions should ALWAYS be submitted directly to the hiring agency--NOT
this list. Similarly, comments and opinions regarding the nature of such
positions or (most certainly) experiences with interviewing for such
positions should NOT appear on this list. It's simple listserv
etiquette...simple good manners, period. Yes?

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
