Big surprise. My collection, while fairly broad in spectrum of subjects and genres, does not lean heavily to the faith-based titles.

For music, the colleges in the district all tithe (um, pay) a fee to BMI, ASCAP, and somebody else whose name I forget. It grows each year, based on our FTE. This pretty much covers us for music played for a variety of events, I guess. Some overly zealous person at one of the other colleges many years ago decided that the Library should pay this fee. So, each year in February or so, I get nicked for a few thousand dollars now. I guess it benefits the college.

I wish we could do something similar for movie rights. Seems like a need that is as yet unfilled.

I would understand this to mean that a college would have the right to show openly only those films on the MPLC list that are faith-based, family values religious films if they buy the license. The MPLC license fee for colleges must include ppr for those titles only. So in that case, yes you could show it om campus for Hispanic Heritage Month. But since I have never seen the actual license I don't know if it stipulates that the showings must be in the library.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
