I agree with Eric. There tends to be subjects that come up again and
again on this list and it would be great to be able to refer people to a
source. I don't see the wiki as competition for the list, but more a
supplement. I think it's a great idea.

Re: [Videolib] New WIKI for librarians

Hi Gary,

Firstly, I hope my invitation was not inappropriate...I know some list
owners would see an announcement such as this as "spam." As a list member
and contributor to VIDEOLIB, I have appreciated the information and lively
discourse that it provides.

I see an associative relationship between VIDEOLIB and Multimedia
Librarian. I do not intend to limit my content to information related to
the video format; hopefully it will contain a repository of
information/resources related to many non-print formats, including audio
and instructional technologies (distance learning platforms, multimedia
tutorials) that are of importance to librarians.

Often times I see topics brought up on listservs that have been previously
discussed and think it would be nice to have a common destination for
revisiting the *sources* of information upon which many of the
contributors base their comments
(e.g. copyright law). I would like to see that information pooled.

So...if it works out, great. If not, it was an experiment.

Eric

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of
issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic
control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in
libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve
as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of
communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video
producers and distributors.
