[Videolib] English subtitles for DVD screenings?

I'm showing Sidney Lumet's Murder on the Orient Express on DVD at my public
library this week. Our sound system is very good but not excellent, many of
our regular moviegoers are seniors, and Poirot's Belgian accent is a bit thick.

Should I turn on the English subtitles to help patrons better understand
the dialogue, or would English subtitles be an unnecessary distraction? I'm
leaning toward leaving subtitles off unless asked to turn them on.

Thanks
for any comments.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
