I would be very interested in this group, we are moving in that direction,
however I don't got to ALA, what about meeting at the National Media
Market??

Subject: [Videolib] digital video interest group?

I've been meaning to ask this question for ages, and now, on the eve of ALA,
it seems like a good time...

Does VRT or the videolib community include any kind of a 'digital video
interest group' or 'digital initiatives sub-committee' or some such entity?
If so, could someone tell me how to join? If not, would anyone be
interested in participating in such a group? The discussions on videolib
regarding technical specs, delivery environments, digital asset management,
tools and techniques are fascinating, but I would love to be able to sit
down with like-minded colleagues at ALA or other venues and discuss targeted
topics, perhaps even to define a library research agenda for digital video.
I'm also an AMIA member, and that group does have a large and flourishing
digital initiatives committee, but I seem to be one of the few media
librarian-types in that group, and I'd welcome the chance to have these
discussions in a library as well as an archival setting.

So...if there's already such an interest group, where do I sign up? If not,
would anyone like to help me start one, or be interested in participating in
any capacity?

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
