I'm sorry if this file has been mentioned and I just didn't see it but how
about What's Up Doc - the switched suitcase filled with musical rocks that
is the basis for the entire comedy? Jim Scholtz.

Some suitcase films...

Danger Zone (1951) (VHS amazon marketplace)
A freelance private eye takes on two jobs: he's hired by a woman to bid
on a locked suitcase at an auction, and on the second he works with
another private investigator on a divorce case--unaware that the PI is
setting up him to take the fall for a murder

Gert and Daisy's Weekend (1942) (available amazon.uk marketplace)
Gert and Daisy volunteer to escort a group of evacuee children to the
country, leaving a London of rationing and nights in Tube stations. But
Maisie from next door somehow manages to get their suitcase muddled up
with that of her seaman boyfriend, and jewel thieves are on the prowl.

Hoppy's Holiday (1947) (available Amazon.com)
Hoppy, California, and Lucky travel to Mesa City for a short vacation.
California buys new clothes and carrying his old ones in a suitcase,
bumps into escaping bank robbers in the dark. His suitcase gets switched
with that of the robbers and he is seen with the money. Hoppy must find
the money that has mysteriously disappeared and also the robbers so that
he can clear California who is now in jail.

Koffer des Herrn O.F., Die (1931) (doesn't seem to be available on video
but it would be perfect for the subject)
In the very oldfashioned town of Ostend suddenly 13 suitcases are
delivered to the hotel, with a note, that O.F. will be here soon and
needs 6 rooms (the hotel just has five). This event, probably the
biggest in 300 years, starts a small wave of modernisation, yet
everybody is wondering who O.F. is. Journalist Stix and architect Stark
have an idea how to use this event. They proclaim, that O.F. is a former
citizen of the town, who became a millionaire abroad. They tell their
fellow citizens that the town still needs modernisation, like better
hotels, nightclubs, shops, etc. And soon, Ostend is a boomtown, then a
capital. The architect, responsible for the new buildings is finaly
allowed to marry the mayor's daughter, while Stix marries the cabaret
star and the widowed mayor his new secretary. The only problem is, O.F.
hasn't shown up, while finance experts from all over the world are
trying to solve the depression problem, that is non-existant in Ostend,
this soon lets the people forget about O.F.

Here's one for the collective wisdom of the list: One of our faculty
members is looking for films from 1920-50 that include suitcases as
relatively important plot points.

Ideas?

Thanks!
