Hi Liz,
=20
Our INTERVENTION series may fit well on the drug abuse side.... These
are 45-50 minute real-life profiles of addicts. No preaching, just a
look into the "normal" person they used to be, what their life is like
now as an addict, how it has negatively affected their lives and the
lives of their family and friends, and inevitably the intervention they
stage and the results post-treatment. It's powerful in what it shows as
an observer, thereby allowing the viewer to fully witness the
destructive power of addiction without anyone else offering
descriptions, interpretations, or conclusions other than the addict
themselves. For context around the specific addiction, factoids are
presented as several-second text interstitials covering physiological
effects, usage statistics, and the like.
=20
We sell the episodes individually for $24.95 and each focuses on addicts
and their struggles with a variety of addictions: meth, crack, alcohol,
prescription medication, cutting, shopping, gambling, sex, plastic
surgery, video games, and so on. The profiles are unflinching and hold
almost nothing back -- including the actual injection or act of cutting
-- which makes it difficult to use in lower grades, but is certainly
appropriate for college-level students.

Subject: [Videolib] health ed vids?

I'm looking for short videos on substance abuse and sex ed for
young college students taking health courses I'm having a bit of trouble
finding anything that doesn't seem to be geared toward a bit younger
audience, mainly toward the "teen" demographic. Does anyone happen to
know any titles in these areas that aren't too preachy or eye-roll
inducing?

=20

Thanks!

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
