[Videolib] "This DVD won't play!"

I'm wondering if any of you out there have on your websites a page
that tells patrons how to handle DVDs properly and/or how to clean
them. As our DVDs circulate more and more, I'm hearing from people
such things as "I think this DVD is broken - I can't get it to play,"
or "This DVD froze up on me half-way through." When I actually get
the disc in my hand, I flip it over and find that the playing surface
is covered in fingerprints or other unidentifiable sticky substances.
If they had either handled the disc properly or wiped it with a soft
cloth, they could have gotten it to play just fine.

So I'm interested in creating such a page for our library, but would
be perfectly happy to rip off (with permission) someone else's.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
