* Celebrate Women's History Month on P.O.V. with "Chisholm '72" *

As Senator Barack Obama emerges as an early frontrunner in the 2008
presidential race, P.O.V. revisits the campaign of another hopeful black
candidate, Shirley Chisholm. In 1972, she became the first black woman
to run for president. Her campaign-trail adventures were frenzied,
fierce and fundamentally right on!

announcing our 2007 schedule next week. In the meantime, several PBS
stations are re-airing "Chisholm '72" this month. Find out if your local
PBS station is one of them by checking local listings on the P.O.V. website.

* Full Frame Documentary Film Festival -- 2007 Industry Award: /P.O.V. /*

The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival (April 12 - 15, 2007)
celebrates its tenth anniversary this year in Durham, NC and will be
presenting /P.O.V./ and two-time P.O.V. filmmaker, Ross McElwee -- "Time
Indefinite," P.O.V. 1994; "Bright Leaves," P.O.V. 2005 -- with special
awards.

2007 Industry Award: PBS' documentary series /P.O.V.
/
Since its launch in 1988, P.O.V. has presented over 250 films to public
television audiences across the country. P.O.V. is television's longest
running independent documentary series and it remains a champion of the
filmmaker's vision, supporting and presenting some the most important
documentary films of our time.

2007 Career Award: Ross McElwee

Nancy Buirski, Full Frame Documentary Film Festival founder, CEO, and
Artistic Director, announced that the 2007 Career Award will go to Ross
McElwee. "Ross McElwee is a filmmaker from our own region and has made
its stories and his vision part of the larger American story. Humane and
deeply compassionate, his filmmaking is both personal and universal in
its themes and conclusions. We are very proud to be able to honor this
gifted artist this year's Career Award."

* For Producers: AIG Insurance Company Now Accepts Fair Use Claims *

A major errors and omissions insurer, National Union, a member company
of AIG, is accepting fair use claims based on the Documentary
Filmmakers' Statement of Best Practices in Fair Use, when supported by
an appropriate lawyer's letter. This is an extraordinary demonstration
of the power of this best-practices approach to making the fair-use
option in copyright law useable again.

In only a year, the Documentary Filmmakers' Statement of Best Practices
in Fair Use has changed the clearance practices of documentary
filmmakers. The Statement was created by five national filmmakers'
organizations (Association of Independent Film and Videomakers;
Independent Feature Project; National Alliance for Media Arts and
Culture; Women in Film and Video [D.C.]), with coordination from two
American University organizations: Washington College of Law's Program
on Information Justice and Intellectual Property and School of
Communication's Center for Social Media. It has been endorsed by many
film and broadcast organizations, including P.O.V. | American Documentary.

Media's Copyright & Fair Use Blog:

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition,bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries,educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
