We have had the DVD "Mystic Spirits" donated to the library. It is a
disc of music performances. The copyright warning reads " Warning: The
copyright proprietors have licensed the cinematography, film, sound
recordings and packaging artwork contained in this video device for
private home use only. All other rights are reserved. Any unauthorized
use including but not limited to copying, editing, lending, exchanging,
renting, firing, exhibiting, public performances, radio or television
broadcastings or any other diffusion, or otherwise dealing with this
video device or any part thereof is strictly prohibited."
As a public library we routinely catalog and lend home use movies. Is
this copyright different due to the wording that mentions lending and
renting? Shall we add it to our collection or do we need to toss it?
Can we sell it at our Friends booksale?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
