We just started doing reciprocal borrowing through ILL - we loan to oth=
ers
that loan and charge if the requesting library also charges. Since our
collection exists primarily to serve our classroom needs I'm conservati=
ve
about what can go out. We probably get 8-10 requests per week and I app=
rove
about 75%. Since we've started doing this we haven't made any requests =
of
other libraries via ILL. However we are in a consortium with other
Washington-area universities and have a cooperative loan system that we=
use
3-4 times per week.

Most of what has been requested has been on the esoteric side. Older
obscure titles with low circulation. If we're just one of a few librari=
es
with a copy I'll decline unless it hasn't circulated in years in which =
case
I'll take a chance since I'd rather than someone get some use out of it=
.
Since we're just getting out feet wet I've probably declined some title=
s
that I might very well approve a year from now.

At this point every request goes through me for approval and it require=
s
about five minutes per week total for the decision-making. The processi=
ng
of the loans of course takes more time but our ILL people are happy to =
add
this service so are not complaining.

Hi Videolib,

As the question has been raised here, could I ask any academic
librarians:

1) does your university/college/school do interlibrary loan of media
(vhs, dvd, 16mm, cd-rom, etc.)?

2) about how many requests per semester do you get?

3) about how many requests do you make per semester?

Any responses gladly accepted and shared with the list.
