Tracy & others:

Collier County Public Library:

10 DVDs per patron.

Feature films & juvenile titles circulate for 3 days; non-fiction and series
titles for 7 days.

Box sets of more than 2 discs are split into individual discs and separated
in the catalog.

We are in the process of converting all of our branches to Benefit Denial
Cases, which use the red buttons to secure the disc. These take up much
less shelf and storage space than our old Alpha security cases. After one
year of the Benefit Denial Cases, the branches that have converted are very
pleased with the cleaner shelf look and increased shelving capacity. We do
not use any electronic security system.

I hope that helps!

Subject: [Videolib] DVD circulation policies - public libraries

Hello all!

We've had circulating DVDs in our collection for 6 or 7 years now, and we
are evaluating our current circulation policies. To get an idea of the
trends within public libraries, I would appreciate you taking the time to
please let me know your current policies and practices. Thank you in
advance!

Your Library system:

How many DVDs do you allow per patron check-out?

How long do your DVDs circulate? In regard to circulation time, do you
distinguish between fiction and nonfiction, adult and juvenile?

How do you handle your boxed DVD sets? Do they have a longer circulation
period? Do you keep in one package or separate the discs?

How do you secure your DVDs?

Do you use a security case or lock?

If so, what is the name of the product?

Are you satisfied with the product? Why or why not?

Thank you again for your time. It is appreciated.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
