Subject: [Videolib] DVD circulation policies - public libraries
=20
Hello all! =20
=20
We've had circulating DVDs in our collection for 6 or 7 years now, and
we are evaluating our current circulation policies. To get an idea of
the trends within public libraries, I would appreciate you taking the
time to please let me know your current policies and practices. Thank
you in advance!
=20
Your Library system: =20
We are not a system are only one building, a bookmobile and a room.
How many DVDs do you allow per patron check-out? =20
4 per patron
How long do your DVDs circulate? In regard to circulation time, do you
distinguish between fiction and nonfiction, adult and juvenile? =20
One week checkout - for all fiction or nonfiction, adult or juvenile.
The only exception a learning kit (Great courses is an example) then the
video/DVD is classified as a kit and it goes out for 3 weeks and does
not count against the 4 per patron rule.
How do you handle your boxed DVD sets? Do they have a longer
circulation period? Do you keep in one package or separate the discs? =20
We break our boxed sets into pieces - if the set is more than four it
is numbered 1, 2, 3 and 4. Sets that are 2 to 3 pieces are circulated
as one piece. Since they are broken up the circulation period remains
the same.
How do you secure your DVDs? =20
We currently shelve the DVD box empty. The DVDs are kept in cabinets
behind the counter and staff has to retrieve them and check them out. I
can go into the problems/benefits of this method if you wish just e mail
off list.
Do you use a security case or lock? No
If so, what is the name of the product?=20
Are you satisfied with the product? Why or why not? =20
=20
Thank you again for your time. It is appreciated. =20
