Since it seems to be such a touchy subject, I'll keep poking at the soft
spot. :) We weed our book collections, so why not weed our media
collections as well?

My question is, what do folks do with their weeded media material?
We're not getting rid of ALL our VHS, 16mm, or slides, but we do have
some items in those formats that we plan on weeding. Does anybody want
social studies kinds of materials from the 1950s and 60s (16mm and
slides primarily)?

"Many cities have mass transport systems...BING...buses and trains
carry people to and from work...BING..."

To me it has plenty of camp value; to the rest of campus it's
completely irrelevant. It's going. The question is where?

We are also discarding VHS tapes that duplicate DVD, except a few
titles for which we are keeping all formats. Are there media exchange
services or vendors who deal in discarded material (as there are for
journals and books)?

--=__PartC1E53957.0__=-- VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
