HELP SHAPE THE SHAPE OF DIGITAL AV DELIVERY
Bullfrog Films, California Newsreel, First Run/ Icarus Films, and Women =
Make Movies recently announced the formation of the Independent Film =
Distributors' Licensing Consortium (IFD'LC). The Consortium was =
established with the objective of constructing a common approach for the =
licensing and delivery of digital content to educational institutions, =
such as school, colleges, universities, and public libraries.
=20
The Consortium's first step will be to conduct a survey of their =
customers in January, on key issues relating to digital licensing, =
delivery, and usage. To better inform this process, and with the =
objective of initiating a collaborative approach with our customers and =
the community of film/video users, we would like to encourage your help =
in formulating the specifics of our survey.=20
What do you think are the core questions we should be asking in order to =
help us formulate best practices for our work together over the next few =
years? Below are some of our first thoughts:=20
1. How is digital delivery being incorporated into your institution? if =
infrastructure is in place or being developed, what are the =
technologies, standards, formats, and rights and asset management =
practices being implemented? =20
2. What is the projected state of the institutions system of digital =
delivery and usage in 2 years? Does your institution have a developed =
digital delivery initiative?=20
3. What is the current approach to digital licensing for existing =
collections and future acquisitions. how does this approach relate to =
current and projected strategies of video acquisition, collection =
development, and budgetary allocation?=20
Our intention at this point in the process is not for you to answer the =
questions above, as the survey will be sent to a broad cross section of =
our customers, but rather to offer your input about the questions you =
think the consortium should be asking. Specific questions that your =
institution has dealt with or is dealing with are welcomed as are more =
general queries.=20
The IFD'LC is working with media consultant Robin Vachal to research, =
develop and carry out this the survey. Your comments and questions may =
be sent directly to Robin at robin.vachal@gmail.com =
<mailto:robin.vachal@gmail.com>=20
Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.=20
Best wishes for the holidays and the New Year.=20
