Reply to my reply, I just looked up something, and there seems to be a
fight between the creator's families and DC over the copyright. So
there it appears that it is copyrighted, but the ownership may be in
doubt. However it is trademarked by DC and that has its own aspects.

I would think that it is trademarked, but I do not think that it is
copyrighted or the old max Fleischer's cartoons would technically not be

in the public domain. Wasn't that how they pulled It's a Wonderful Life

out of the public domain because there were copyrightable aspects in the

movie. If Superman is copyrighted, then a movie about him would also
then by default be copyrighted. Just my two cents. YMMV.

We had a patron ask this question today: is the Superman image
copyrighted? I thought I'd ask this list as you all are knowledgeable
about these issues.
Thanks!
