ARTS: Film & Broadcast Studies Discussion

Date: 6/24/2006 1:30 PM -- 3:30 PM
Location:Hilton New Orleans Riverside room: Compass

Here's the preliminary agenda:
(1) Introductions / additional agenda items
(2) New resources in the field (Proquest interface for FIAF, Ebsco
acquisition of Film Literature Index, Communication and Mass Media
Complete by Ebsco vs. Communication Abstracts, others?)
(2.a) Input: Survey for book on television research - Dintrone
(3) Interlibrary loan policies for media
(4) Instruction and outreach discussion: How do we handle library
instruction for film and broadcast studies (assignment types, class
sizes, any multimedia use?) What kinds of outreach to faculty and
students have proven useful?
(5) Revised Guidelines for Media Resources in Academic Libraries
(http://www.ala.org/ala/acrl/acrlstandards/mediaresources.htm)--any
comments?

Also, I've put together a list of meetings and events of potential
interest to anyone interested in film, media, or broadcast studies. I'd
like to get this online some way (as we discussed last time). Does anyone
know of an event I've missed, or have info they'd like to add about a
particular item?

students define cultural studies, and how are academic libraries and
librarians responding to their needs? Doing so may challenge the way
libraries organize collection development, reference, instruction, and
outreach, and demand retraining for humanities librarians. A scholar and
several librarians will discuss the implications.

What relationships exist between organizations to connect ephemeral
artifacts to related collections? In light of various hazards, how do
collections safeguard the physical condition or intellectual value of
ephemeral holdings? This program
will feature the diverse ephemera collections that document carnival,
theatre, performing arts, and popular entertainments, highlighting relief

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
