On behalf of the Board of Directors, I cordially invite you to attend the=20
Market this year to be held at the Phoenix/East Mesa Hilton in Mesa,=20
Arizona from September 27th =96 October 1st.

My institution, the State Library of Louisiana, has sent representatives to=
=20
the National Media Market since its inception many years ago as the=20
National Film Market. I have been fortunate to attend the National Media=20
Market for the past eight years.

As a buyer, NMM is the single biggest tool I have for collection=20
development. It is the one time of year I can devote to previewing new=20
programming. I often say that I get more work done these few days than I=20
do the rest of the year! The money I have saved annually from buying=20
materials at NMM has more than paid for my trips. It is very cost=20
effective=ADespecially in times of tight budgets.

I look forward to seeing ya=92ll in Arizona in September. As always, we=
have=20
a wide variety of professional development opportunities available. For=20
details or to register for the Market, please visit our website=20
<http://www.nmm.net.>http://www.nmm.net.

Sincerely,

Sally Wellman, NMM Chair
State Library of Louisiana

P.S. There is something else that I have gained from the National Media=20
Market that cannot be measured financially and that is friendships I have=20
made. I have been fortunate to form many personal relationships with both=20
vendors and my colleagues that go way beyond routine and causal=20
networking. I look forward to seeing all my old friends there and making=20
new ones!

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
