I have been asked by one of our Women's Studies professors to help in
finding a Japanese film to show for a class that would fit the theme of
women's issues in international film. I've mentioned a number of classic
titles to her, such as Mizoguchi and some of Ozu's works, but she's
focusing more on recently made films and doesn't think those will hold
students' interest (this is a non-film studies course). I've come up
with a short list but all have women's and gender issues as a very
tangential theme and will not likely meet her needs. We've tried /Fear
and Trembling/ and a few other more recent titles, but no luck. I'm
waiting on a copy of /Yurisai/. Any suggestions in this area would be
helpful. If we can't find something accessible in Japanese cinema, I
would like to recommend some other Asian cinema titles so any
suggestions in those areas would be helpful as well.
Thanks in advance,

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
