Our media collection doesn't circulate to students. We allow professors
two weeks, unless another professor has already booked the video/DVD for
a certain date. We also allow students to check out materials for
in-library use, for two hours.
In addition to our non-circulating collection, however, we have a
popular video collection that is a rental collection. It costs a dollar
for a few days, and it's pretty popular. We have a very small budget
for that, and usually rely on donations. (It's a small collection.)
Eventually, we'd like that collection to be primarily designed around
collecting the works of certain directors, and less-popular, more
independent/hard-to-find films. But with our budget, it's going to take
a while.
Any popular work that is still being used often by a professor stays in
the non-circulating collection. Every few months, those popular films
will be evaluated to see if they can make the jump to the rental collection.
