Thanks to everyone who responded to my plaintive cry for help. I think
we've got a nice pool of films to choose from now. (By the way, in my
own research, I found my favorite very loose adaptation from book to
film: Ball of Fire w/Barbara Stanwyck and Gary Cooper. Hottie nightclub
singer hides out from the mob with seven stuffy professors...that's
right, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs! Billy Wilder denied a conscious
connection, but really. Sadly, the DVD is no longer in print. (Does
anyone know if a re-release is in the works?)

I think in the future we're going to expand our criteria to include
short stories and plays--makes the whole thing a lot easier. And special
thanks to Barb Bergman for suggesting the Tibbetts Encyclopedia of
Novels into Film--it's on order!
