2006 on the theme:

" New Access Technologies: Exploring the Heritage"

The overall theme of the 2006 World Library and Information Congress is
"Libraries: Dynamic Engines for the Knowledge and Information Society"
and our programme is focused on a range of new and exciting technical
developments that Libraries can exploit to improve access to audiovisual
and multimedia resources, which increasingly constitute the Knowledge
and Memory of modern nations, and yet are currently little recognised
and greatly under-used.

Proposals are invited for papers describing emerging technologies in
this field that deserve wider exposure and discussion by librarians,

-Content-based image searching on non-linguistic criteria

-Automatic indexing of time-based media through voice recognition

-Open captioning of film for the visually impaired

-Retrieval of 3D objects

proposed paper (must not have been published elsewhere) and relevant
biographical information of author(s)/presenter(s), by 15 December 2005,
via email to:

The abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Audiovisual and
Multimedia Section's Standing Committee. Successful proposals will be
identified by 31 January 2006. Full papers will be due by 15 April 2006
to allow time for review of papers and preparation of translations; each
full paper must be an original submission not published elsewhere, and
