Monique,
I've set up what I'm calling "news channels" rather than "blogs" at UT. We
are currently using MoveableType to manage this and it seems to work very
well. http://www.lib.utk.edu/news/

It's very customizable (the rss/xml feeds, as well as the actual content
management part) so for example http://www.lib.utk.edu/news/allnews.html
and (under development) subject based feeds at
http://www.lib.utk.edu/news/humanities/humanitiesfeeds.html

We are experimenting/probing with the idea and possibility of other rss
feeds (new acquisitions, journal TOC's, etc...)
