Regarding the list of films on poverty, this could be a great
addition:

Sullivan's Travels (1941)
Written and Directed by Preston Sturges
Plot Outline: A director of escapist films goes on the
road as a hobo to learn about Life...which gives him a rude
awakening.

This film has been used extensively in Cinema Studies classes
at the University of Illinois. It has also been farmed out to
several other disciplines that were studying issues of
poverty, the depression and American History.

>From an academic standpoint, one very good thing about it is
thatcollege-age students accept it and relate to it very well,
due largely in part to Sturges's craftmanship and the
excellent performances by Joel McCrea, Veronica Lake and
William Demarest.
