Hello, everyone. This is a blatant ad for a special collection at our
library. If you have patrons looking for sheet music - especially
classical of ANY kind, vocals, instrument instructional, then we may
have it. Our Alice Doty Weirnecke collection was donated to us in 1945.
Before Mrs Weirnecke passed away, her house was an adjunct music library
for us. The collection is 22 file cabinets large, and is one of the
larger collections in a public library in the Midwest. We would like to
get more use out of it. The one problem is that while a lot of it has
been cataloged in the computer, most won't show up in a search of
WorldCat. And there is still a good portion of it that hasn't been put
in the catalog. (We still have a card catalog for the file cabinets.)
Along with the file cabinets, we have a whole range of sheet music books
- mostly pop, show music, etc. While in the last few years, the
contents of new books have been put in the catalog, the older ones
haven't. However, we photocopy every contents page and have them filed
according to style of music. So, if someone is looking for that special
song, violin piece, orchestral parts for Beethoven's 5th Symphony,
whatever, try us! Check out our catalog on our web site, or you can
e-mail me if you don't see what you need. For those of you in academic
libraries, feel free, to pass this information onto the faculty in your
music department. I know that their collections are probably vast, but
you can't have too many outside resources to check. Thanks! =20
