RE: [Videolib] AV equipment checkouts

We long ago stopped asking for faculty signatures for student checkout
of equipment.

Partly because some equipment is purchased with student tech fees
(namely the laptop computers) and partly because it just wasn't worth
our staff time. Nowadays you could rely on an e-mail from the faculty
member, but with a signature, how do you know it's not forged?
And the biggie -- Unlike the faculty, students are fined for late
returns and are more easily billed for damages.

Equipment is of course intended for class-related use and we do have
this information posted.
However, unless someone volunteers that they're planning to, say, use 4
projectors for a gaming night at their apartment, we don't ask
questions.
We realized that if you ask, "Why do you need this equipment?" and they
know that the only correct answer is "For a class project" -- Do think
anyone will admit to anything else once they know this?
