THE LIST MODERATOR weighs in... (even tho this is pretty much an
unmoderated list)

Let's move on.

I think it's productive to discuss the responsibility of educators and
librarians to make intelligent decisions about the kinds of content they
are acquiring and teaching; I think we could argue politics and positions
on the military endlessly with little productive result.

I will offer the opinion that if educators in this country (and those who
fund them) continue dropping the ball in various ways (and that includes
the frequent, patently uniformed and unenlightened use of media in the
classroom), it won't matter if we have a military to "defend" us--the whole
joint may go to hell in a handbasket anyway.
